Jan 23 Daily Announcements We will have Mass on Monday Jan. 26th at 9am as we begin Catholic Schools Week. We will be on the Mass Schedule on Monday so all students should report to 1st pd by 7:30am. It is a regular School Uniform Day. Catholic Schools Week Out of Uniform Days next week: - Thursday Jan. 29: Catholic education Shirt Day -- Students may wear a t-Shirt, sweatshir or jersey from their Catholic Grade school, a t-shirt, sweatshirt or jersey from Columbus or a Catholic college t-shirt, sweatshirt or Jersey. - Friday Jan. 30: Columbus Spirit Day; Columbus students may wear a Columbus top and Jeans (If you dont wear Jeans, you need to have school dress code pants). There is NO COST to participate in this Day. SENIORS: Yearbook Reminder: Seniors pictures are due to Mr. Hamilton byMarch 1. The picture can be emailed ([email protected]) as a .jpeg(your picture studio can do this) or drop off a hard copy in room 249 to be scanned. Interested in going out for baseball this year: - See Coach Weisert so we can get an idea for numbers, hats and contact information. Information on Musical Auditions: --Auditions for this years spring musical, High School Musical, will be held on Sunday, January 25th, in the choir room. Two sessions will be offered: 1:00-4:30pm and 4:30-8:00pm. To sign up for a time or for more audition information please, visit the High School Musical bulletin board by the Music Entrance. Contact Kyle Weber at columbusmusical@gmail with questions or if these times do not work for you. We are looking for 30 to 60 students to fill the halls of High School Musical with talents not just in singing and dancing. We need cheerleaders, skateboarders, gymnasts, and of course, basketball enthusiasts. No stage experience necessary. Audition forms will be available in the office, with Mr. Calderwood, and on the bulletin board the week of auditions. - Additional Important Musical Audition information: --If you will be seeking only an ensemble role, you will not need to sing solos at auditions. --First auditions start this afternoon at 4pm in the choir room for students that had conflicts on Sunday and last chance auditions will be Monday at 7:30pm. CAMPUS MINISTRY: - Seniors, dont forget about TEC (Teens Encounter Christ)!! This is a great opportunity to grow in your faith and to prepare for the next step in you faith journey. See the posters around school or Mr. Larsen for more information. - Medley/Service Club meeting Sunday at 4:30pm in the BMAP commons. Please use the main entrance. GUIDANCE OFFICE Scholarships --Applications are in the guidance office for the Black Hawk County Corn and Soybean Association Scholarship. Applicant must be: a son, daughter, or grandchild of a current member of the association, a high school senior with a GPA of at least 2.5. Deadline to apply is Feb. 13th. --Iowa Student Loan will award 20 Iowa high school seniors each $1,500 to use for their fall 2015 college expenses. Interested seniors should go to IowaStudentLoan.org/Senior Scholarship to register and read the complete scholarship rules. purchase is necessary to enter the scholarship. Deadline is February 22nd. --Mount Mercy Universitys Catherine McAuley Scholarship Program - This scholarship provides free tuition to Iowa students whose family income is $45,000 or less annually. The scholarship is renewable for up to four years. To be eligible,students need to: 1.Be an Iowa resident and graduate from an Iowa high school 2.Be admitted as a new freshmen to Mount Mercy 3.Reside all four years on Mount Mercys campus during the academic year. 4.File the FAFSA prior to July 1 that shows family income of $45,000 or less & Pell Grant eligibility Additionally, to maintain the scholarship from year to year, students will need to show satisfactory academic progress and participate in Mount Mercys College success Program during their first year on campus. Complete your application at MTMERCY.EDU/APPLY --First Presbyterian Church - Florence Warnock Scholarship $1,500 awarded annually (renewable for 3 subsequent years) to one Black Hawk County graduating senior with the intent of pursuing a baccalaureate degree at a four year college or university. Eligibility Criteria: 1.Graduation from an accredited Black Hawk County High School with a 3.0 GPA or better. 2.Intention of pursuing a Baccalaureate Degree at a Four-year college or university. 3. Demonstration of financial need. 4. Demonstration of active church membership and qualities of character, citizenship and leadership. Applications are in the guidance office or online at 1stpresby.org. Deadline is March 16th. --St. Ambrose University Teacher Education Department is hosting an Open House for students interested in Teacher Education on Saturday, February 21, 2015 at the St. Ambrose University Rogalski Center from 8:30 to 3:00. Please contact Trish Zinger at [email protected] for more information. -- Park Educational Trust Scholarship: This $2,000 scholarship was created to provide financial assistance to students who graduate from East High School, West High School, Columbus High School, and Waterloo Expo. There will be 5 to 8 scholarships awarded this year. Students will be judged based on financial need, extracurricular activities, scholastic achievement, and an essay-with all four areas being given equal weighting. Applications are in the guidance office. Applications need to be returned to Mrs. Kuchera in the guidance office before the start of school on March 27th, so they can be mailed out that day. Youth Ministry News: - JUNIORS: Remember your confirmation retreat is Saturday, Jan. 31st from 9:30am-8:30pm. Dress is casual. Jeans or decent sweats are ok. If you question whether something is appropriate to wear, then its not. If you have not turned in your faith story, service hours or confirmation name, make sure to take care of that ASAP. Contact Annie Zeets with questions or concerns. -The youth office will be closed during lunch all next week. I have lots of meetings, plus I have stuff being delivered throughout the week for confirmation. I will be in and out of the building a lot, but will still be checking my mailbox for retreat letters. Annie --This Sunday evening, WCYM will be heading to Sacred Heart Church for Taize Prayer. We will meet in the side entrance of the church at 5:40pm. Come experience this reflective form of prayer with your peers. We will go for ice cream afterwards to discuss the evening. Let Annie know by noon Saturday if you are planning to attend. email: anniezeets@gmail Waterloo Warrior Hockey News: -- The Warriors have been busy this past week. Over the weekend they went to the Quad Cities. During Saturdays game they went up 4-1 and then held on to win. On Sunday the Warriors went on a scoring flurry winning 9-0. On Wednesday, they went to face the the #3 Dubuque Devils. The Warriors went down early in the first 0-2. They held them in the second and with 58 seconds left they scored to make it 1-2. In the third they came out and tied it up midway through and then with 5 minutes left they scored the go ahead goal. The Warriors were able to hold off the Devils and come home with the victory! Next for the Warriors is CR in Cedar Rapids on January 30th. GO WARRIORS!
