Jan 29, 2014 Regional supply chains in textile trade urged Pakistan and India should join hands with Bangladesh and Sri Lanka to jointly liberalise trade in at least in those textile value chain items that they import from outside the region to reduce their costs due to lower transportation charges. Leading spinner and knitwear exporter, said the four major textile players of the subcontinent have major rivals around the globe in every category of textiles. He said opportunities exist to improve the competitiveness of the region provided all four countries chalk out a strategy to facilitate the other in the textile value chain items where they enjoy an advantage. Since textile is a labour intensive sector, better management of value chain would boost productivity in all countries and create more jobs. There are number of textile value chain products that could lower the costs of each country if barriers to trade in those specific items are removed(The News)
