Jan 31, 2014 Pakistani exports to EU likely to reach $2 bn: envoy The European Union (EU) has estimated that Pakistan’s exports would go up in the range of $700 mn to two bn dollars on annual basis in the wake of GSP Plus status. EU Ambassador to Pakistan Lars Gunnar Wigemark said that Pakistan would have to comply with all 27 conventions ratified for getting the status, “which is win-win for both the sides.”Addressing the inaugural meeting of Pak-EU Parliamentary Friendship Group at Pakistan Institute of Parliamentary Services Thursday, he said that the EU had formulated a five-year engagement plan to pave the way for providing the GSP Plus status to Pakistan. Wigemark said that EU was implementing this plan by disbursing around $37 mn for various sectors of the country. Besides, “In 2014, we will prepare seven-year framework for assisting Pakistan in education, human, labour, women and child rights, democratic process, transparent governance, and strengthening judiciary and police in years ahead,” he said.(The News)
