Janay Rices mother, Candy Palmer, adamantly said she didn’t raise “a young woman to be an abused woman. Salamishah Tillet, in this excellent piece, shows the sneaking stigmatization of real domestic violence victims vs. what is being presented by the family as a one-time violent act against Janay. So women can be raised to be victims? What a strangely odd burden to put on parents. If only we could hear Ray Rices mother say, I didnt raise my son to abuse women. Maybe thatd be a better way to begin to change this culture of violence.
