Jane Fonda, at the age of 77, was lookin’ incredibly hot tonight, as she honored Lily Tomlin, wow! WOW! And Bruce Springsteen, my hero, impressed with his rendition of I Hung My Head to honor Sting. Of course he did! But my favourite part of the Kennedy Center ceremony tonight was the honoring of Tom Hanks. And I almost fell over when David Letterman appeared to give the introductory speech (alongside the supremely great Stephen Colbert). Such a rarity to see my favourite talk show host anywhere but the Ed Sullivan Theatre. Letterman obviously thinks a lot of Tom Hanks. As he should! There are so many reasons to celebrate Hanks. Big. Turner & Hooch. Joe versus The Volcano. Sleepless in Seattle. Philadelphia. Apollo 13. You’ve Got Mail. The Green Mile. Catch Me If You Can. To name only nine. But really, I would honor Hanks and shower him with award upon award upon award upon award upon award for just one reason: Forrest Gump. Forrest Gump! Tom Hanks is his generation’s Jimmy Stewart. Yes, yes he is. Beloved.
