Jane Goodall made many discoveries that lead to the improvement and gain of knowledge in the primatology field. Jane Goodall started in anthropology with working on documentary films and later made ties with some key people like Louis Leakey a famous anthropologist who helped her make her own way into the anthropological life. She started with observing chimpanzees in Africa and acquired a passion for primatology and more specifically observing chimps in the wild. She spent years watching and documenting chimps in places in Africa such as the Gombe Stream Reserve. The chimps became familiarized with her and soonb she was getting within 30 feet of their feeding grounds. These observations lead to her discovery of the “banana club”, a system where she would gain chimp trust and documentation of typical chimp behavior by feeding them. She used this message to become close to the chimps and make many discoveries. Some of these included the discovery of the complex social system and language system of the chimps. She discovered that chimps were capable of making tools, eating and hunting meat, showing compassion towards one another, having a distinct family structure, a “caste” system where dominant males in the community were placed hire and reflected certain feeding and gathering patterns and many other chimp discoveries that many thought before could not be possible. Overall, Goodall created a revolution in primatology and dedicated her life to learning new things about these animals that are still used in anthropological studies today.
