Jane and I set off for Ayr today as we oft times do. The Doon - TopicsExpress

Jane and I set off for Ayr today as we oft times do. The Doon Valley was particularly weathery - wind and rain being driven up our exhaust pipe, all the way. As always, when we crested the last hill at Carrick Glen, I looked out over the town to the sea beyond. The Isle of Arran was gone again. Instead the slate grey sea seemed to stretch uninterrupted to the distant curved horizon. Now, when the sky is blue and the air is clear, Arran can be found firmly planted in the Firth of Clyde. Doing what islands do. Seemingly happy to sit there with Goat Fell wrapped in a fluffy cloud. But when the winter weather looms Arran becomes hazy, just an island shaped smudge on the low clouds out at sea. I suspect this is when it’s making its plans to travel to fairer climes. So, while Jane and I are preparing to brave this Scottish winter, the fair weather island is probably at this moment floating in warmer waters, fluffy clouds unashamedly cast aside, sipping margaritas.
