Jane is the sweetest and most loving 8 year old pitt bull who was lucky to be rescued from a junk yard by her new family. She was adjusting to her new loving home , loving eating twice day, drinking fresh water, snuggling on the couch, and lounging in the sun. Her family was concerned because she looked like she has swallowed a basketball. We discovered after taking abdominal radiographs and doing a very thorough exam that she did indeed have a very large mass in her abdomen, likely on the spleen. Preanesthetic bloodwork was done and The owners elected to do an abdominal explore to find and removed the large mass. Jane received a blood transfusion during her surgery and the extremely large splenic mass was removed. This mass weighed an amazing 11lbs! She recovered from surgery with no complications. Often dogs who have a spleenectomy will suffer from arrythmias post operatively. Even better news was that the gigantic spleenic tumor was BENIGN (non cancerous)!!! Jane came in with her family this week for her suture removal and is reported to be doing great! She gets along with her fur family which consists of 2 German Shephards, a Lab, and a kitty. Truly a success story. What a LUCKY girl!
