Janel, one of our Facebook fans sent us the following message. As I have received these phone calls in the past days, I always do a Google search of numbers I dont know. You may want to let the public know to please be mindful of a scam that is being perpetrated across the country. You may have already noticed calls to your mobile phone from area codes such as 284, 473, 649, 809 and 876. The caller lets the phone ring once maybe twice in most cases and does not leave a voice mail. Do not let curiosity get the better of you. These are international numbers established by scam artists as a premium service number resulting in rates as high as $20 for the first minute if you return the call. Wait for a voicemail before returning phone calls. Below is a list of International Area Codes within the US country code of ‘1’. Calls from any of these area codes could be suspect: 242- Bahamas 441 – Bermuda 784 – St. Vincent & Grenadines 246 – Barbados 473 – Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique 809, 829, 849 – Dominican Republic 264 – Anguilla 649 – Turks and Caicos 868 – Trinidad and Tobago 268 – Antigua 664 – Montserrat 876 – Jamaica 284 – British Virgin Islands 758 – St Lucia 869 – St. Kitts & Nevis 345 – Cayman Islands 767 – Dominica Thanks Janel for taking the time to put this all together. The Better Business Bureau also has put out an alert for people to be aware of this latest One Ring scam.
