A life changing and defining event, even when were too young to understand it all (not that we ever do). An incorporation into a world wide community like no other. And most of all, a connection with the power of physical stuff (like water) to transform us. Isnt it strange that while the church seems to take sacraments more lightly, the consumer culture makes the power of things ever more important. Witness the orgy of Christma spending were just seen in this country.
