January 16, 2015. A Prayer Starter for Today: Jesus astounded people with God’s abundant gifts of healing and forgiveness of sins, as we hear in today’s Gospel (Mark 2: 12). The shocking good news of the glorious abundance of God should astound us as well. God lavishes us with his love and mercy! The catechetical theme set by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) for this year is, “God’s Gift of Forgiveness.” What a gift indeed! We are forgiven… and we are asked (commanded) to forgive as well. Sometimes forgiving others seems impossible; that there are some things that just are not forgivable – but that is not true. Forgiving others is OUR gift! Forgiveness sets US free! I encourage you to watch the video of Matthew West’s song, “Forgiveness.” (see link) We pray… Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.
