January 19, 2015 Devotional: MLK Day Happy Martin Luther King Day! There are lots of celebrations and questions being posed and people talking about how they are living the dream. One statement made that has stood out for me was made last week. It was not in relationship to the holiday but to community building and reaching into our backyards to further enrich those who may not have the opportunity to do some things that others do. The statement was, “Team work makes the dream work.” Dr. King was a part of a team; he could not have done anything he did without some faithful people with him and the Holy Spirit. Pastor reminded us that there was some division among the leaders of the different camps during this time. He pointed out that if we had been more united; Dr. King and Malcom X, Dr. King and the college movements, Dr. King and the communities’ movements the effects may have been even greater. Change happened because it was a common cause. Everyone, the Negro, was being treated the same under the Jim Crow laws. But now it is a different story. (“Me, my four and no more” is the mentality today of most) This holiday (holy day) is for all people because the fight for justice and humane treatment was not just here in the United States but a world problem. I have started the year off with a request to examine your self or reflect on the things that God requires of us as believers or followers of Christ Jesus. As I reflected on the devotionals so far this year I can only say where I stand with God and the call he has placed on my life. I believe I would be farther in my calling if I had as many people pushing me forward as I have pushing me backward. With the devotional, “I come in peace!” I had to reflect on my broken relationship with my family and extended an olive branch. Jesus makes it clear that His family is those who do the will of the Father. So nature family may not be true family in the Biblical definition. God has shown me some things about my family that I can not share because of the brokenness that has been created by outside forces, so pray much for us. My calling is tied to this Holy Day; God gave me a piece of heaven on the very first day this Holy Day was celebrated as a Holiday, January 20, 1986. That was 29 years ago. He gave me the title of Queen Mother at a later date in conjunction with this gift. My gifting has not been affirmed by anyone but God. I know people know but they have not shown me that they know. Some of the greatest souls in the Bible didn’t do what they were called to do until late in life. They had become seasoned or mature. Some of the speeches by Dr. King that are being played talks about how some are not going to make it and some did die, blacks, Jews, white, Christians and Catholics. Are the people more afraid of dying now than then. What does the Word of God say about dying? Matthew 10:39 Jesus already died for us. Verse 38 of this chapter says that we should take up our crosses. Every person of color has the same cross to carry. Every person that considers themselves non-colored should help them to carry that cross. That was one of Dr. King’s messages and many non-coloreds answered the call, many of them died also. So is there a cause/call today that the Christian need to answer. The cross for every disciple of Jesus Christ is to love the Lord God with all your mind, body and soul and to love your neighbor as yourself.
