January 2, 1960 - U.S. Sen. John F. Kennedy of Massachusetts announced his candidacy for the Democratic presidential nomination. So it began, the long trail that is a Presidential campaign. It was a battle for the nomination, and his main opponent for the nomination, Lyndon Baines Johnson was not so picky about serving as Vice-President, and so, became Kennedys running mate in the 1960 Presidential race against Richard M. Nixon and Henry Cabot Lodge. I wonder how many elections have been fought in which 3 of 4 candiadates were future Presidents? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1960_Democratic_National_Convention#Presidential_nomination
