January 20, 2015 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE South Precinct detectives this afternoon charged Mark Silas Sebastian with two counts of criminal homicide for Sunday’s shooting deaths of his mother and brother, Janet and Frank Boone, inside the victims’ Neese Drive apartment. Sebastian, 23, who lives in Madison, was developed as a suspect during the course of the investigation. He was located and interviewed by detectives Monday night, during which he claimed to have no knowledge of the shootings. This morning, however, Sebastian’s recollection changed. Sebastian approached uniformed Officer Brad Nave, who happened to be walking to court downtown, and said, “I don’t know if you’re the one I need to talk to, but I need to confess to something.” Sebastian proceeded to admit to the murders of his mother and brother. Officer Nave took Sebastian into custody and notified South Precinct detectives. After arriving at the South Precinct, Sebastian made the same unsolicited confession to a member of the Homicide-Cold Case Unit, who was at the precinct on an unrelated matter. Sebastian declined to elaborate on the circumstances surrounding the shooting deaths. Officers responded to the victims’ apartment in the Gazebo complex on Neese Drive shortly before 7 a.m. Sunday in response to a neighbor’s report of shots being fired. Janet Boone, 54, was found critically wounded inside a bedroom. She was rushed to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where she was pronounced dead. Her son, Frank Boone, 27, was deceased and lying on the floor nearby. A pistol was recovered from the room. Sebastian is being held in lieu of $500,000 bond. The investigation is continuing
