January 21, 2015 Devotions: And His voice shook the earth then, but now He has promised, saying, YET ONCE MORE I WILL SHAKE NOT ONLY THE EARTH, BUT ALSO THE HEAVEN. This expression, Yet once more, denotes the removing of those things which can be shaken, as of created things, so that those things which cannot be shaken may remain. Therefore, since we receive a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us show gratitude, by which we may offer to God an acceptable service with reverence and awe; for our God is a consuming fire. (Hebrews 12:26-29 NASB) I have set the LORD continually before me; Because He is at my right hand, I will not be shaken. (Psalms 16:8 NASB) The author of Hebrews, who I believe is Paul, tells us that in these latter days there is coming a shaking to all the natural world whether it is nations or economies, all things in the natural realm. That which can be seen is temporal or shakable. There are minor trimors in all peoples lives but there is coming a shaking of everything that can be shaken. In 1929 the stockmarket in the U.S. crashed and the effects were felt around the world. In the 30s in the U.S. there was a great famine and drought in what was called the great depression. But God says that there is an even greater shaking coming. The Psalmist David though gives us the way out. He said that He set the Lord continually before him. This was not something that David did when the shaking started but way back in his youth as he was watching the sheep herds for his father he put the Lord infront of him. David developed an awareness of the presence of the Lord and knew that God was with him even when he could not feel him. David had a habit of communing with the Lord when he did not need Him so that when he did need God he knew he could find Him. What are your daily habits? Are you seeking to spend time with the Lord when you are in a calm. If you wait for the storm to strike before you start seeking the Lord you will be too distraught and distracted to hear from God. Train your ways unto righteousness when things are peaceful and you will know the path of refuge when you need it.
