Unityspringsfrom the factthat we have unity ofpurpose-to recover, and to help others stayclean. Even so, we often find that while we strive to fulfill the same purpose, ourmeansand methodsmaybe radically different. We cant impose our ideasofunityon othersor confuse unitywith uniformity. In fact, abig attraction ofthe NA programis the absence ofuniformity. Unity springs from our common purpose, notfrom standards imposedon the group bya few well-meaning members. A group thathas the unity which springsfrom the loving heartsof its membersallowseach addict tocarry the message in hisor her own unique way. In ourdealings with each otherin NA, we sometimes disagree rather vocally. We must rememberthat the detailsof how we getthings done isnt alwaysimportant, solong as we keep our focus on the groupsprimary purpose.We can watch memberswho vehemently disagree over trivial thingspull together when a newcomerreaches outforhelp. Someone wasthere forus when we gottothe rooms of NA. Now itisour turn to be there for others. We need unity tohelp show the newcomerthat thiswayof life works.
