It was in Exodus 33:19-23, that Moses asked God to see his glory. God told Moses that he had a place made by God himself that that would protect Moses while God passed and showed him only his back. So God placed Moses in the cleft of the rock to protect him. In Numbers 20, the people in the wilderness were without water. Moses called the people before the rock that God provided. God had told Moses to speak to the rock and it would provide water. In 1 Samuel and 2 Samuel the Lord is referred using the term rock. One of my favorite verses is 2 Samuel 22:2 And he said: The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; In Psalms, David refers to the Lord sixteen times as his rock. In Isaiah 44:8 God makes it clear that He is the only rock. Matthew and Luke refer to accepting, following and obeying Christ as the rock upon which we buikl a secure home. 1 Corinthians 10:4 says as believers we have all drank from the same spiritual drink and that Rock was Christ. In these verses we see Jesus as our protector, provider, strength and foundation. Praise God that he loved me first.
