January 24, 2015 – Friday 1 Corinthians 7:29-31 I mean, brothers and sisters,[a] the appointed time has grown short; from now on, let even those who have wives be as though they had none, 30 and those who mourn as though they were not mourning, and those who rejoice as though they were not rejoicing, and those who buy as though they had no possessions, 31 and those who deal with the world as though they had no dealings with it. For the present form of this world is passing away. TGIF!!! Thank God it’s Friday!!! I think we all look forward to the week coming to an end. For those who do not work weekends Friday is the day that we can begin to leave work and its stressors behind. It is the day that allows us to wipe the slate clean and enjoy family, friends or just time alone. It is also a time when we can look forward to the opportunity to do things differently. TGIF is about letting go of the past and living in a new day. The above verses remind us that God is still active in our world. He is moving us forward to a time and place where things will be fresh and new. He is not telling us to get rid of our spouses or stop crying over our losses. The author of 1 Corinthians is reminding us that God is making all things new and that the present troubles and concerns of life will all pass away in that new day. Prayer: Lord Jesus, open our eyes to all that you make new each morning. Guide us to know that in some way every day is Friday for your people. Teach us to let go of the past and live in the hope of a better tomorrow. Amen.
