January 24 Friday. Hike at Solstice Canyon. Solstice Canyon is a park within the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area in Malibu. Google for directions to trail head. OK boys, in 2015 we are going to start doing somethings differently. There will be couple other Rule changes and stricter enforcement of existing rules. FIRST We are going to study the Handbook page by page starting with the introduction on page 12. Ive always expected all you guys to read and understand the material on your own, but the more scoutmaster conferences I conduct lately, the more I realize you guys are very different from the boys I had in the past. SO now I will hold your hands and we will go through each page by page together. Every day I will post a couple of page you need to read. you will read the pages to understand the material covered. But that is not enough. By reading alone you will get 99%-100% of the material at best. but by writing a short review including all the important points, you will get 110% of the material. When you read and write what you read, you comprehend more and retain the information longer. I want you to be the best scout possible. In order to be the best you have to understand everything. I will verify the material and stamp them. We will do this until we cover the entire book. every week you will take a short quiz regarding the material cover in the sections you read and wrote about. There is no reason for anyone not to get a 100% on all your scoutmaster conferences. This new project will not take much of your time each time. It will not hurt your school grades, It is not detrimental to you in any way shape or form to study the scout handbook together. You will only benefit from it. You will gain deeper understanding of the core principles of what scouting is about. More in-depth knowledge of scouting skills and the values that scouting is trying to install in you, this will only make you a better person and more prepared to face the challenges life will inevitably throw your way. Remember, Troop 777 is not your typical average troop. We are a highly motivated troop. Your leaders and parents put in much effort to make this troop a success. We push your harder, expect more of you then most or any other troop anywhere. This is because we want you to become the best. SECOND This year we will be checking your school grades for slackers. You will be required to maintain a decent grade as per BSA policy. warnings will be given and scouts will not be able to participate in some events if grades are low and they remain consistently low. Pregress report cards and final report card copies are not mandatory. THIRD Ive asked you guys to address each other appropriately in respect to traditional Korean Age customs. If a scout is older than you, DO NOT address them by their name alone. You must address them as HYUNG. Such as Jason Hyung or Andrew Hyung No exceptions. You guys are all respectful so I know this will not be a problem for most of you. More updates to come SCoutmaster Shin our 4 now.
