January 30th In Two Zero One Four We Will Worry No More! Just Praise Him 40 Day New Year Devotional/Prayer Guide Give and it Shall Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you. Luke 6:38 NKJV There are three parts to this verse, One thing that is stated as a declaration, and two that explain the how. The declarations are that” if”, (and this is the pre-qualifier), if we give it will be given unto us. The reason I said “if” is because the second part cannot happen until the first part is fulfilled. The “given unto you” part is dependent on the “Give” part. So if we start from the basis that we will give, we have been given a promise that it will be given unto us. My pastor often says we are not to pray “my name is Jimmy, give me give me, give me”. We have to learn to give. The second part of this verse is the how the “given to you” works. “Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over”. Not only does God want to bless you, He wants to multiply back to. What this verse is telling you is that obedience in this area, the area of giving, comes with a promise to supply you with more. Why? Because this way you can give more, you don’t give to get, you give to bless, and then God blesses you with more and the cycle continues. God has given so much to us before we do our giving, sadly some people think it’s all in the getting and forget about the giving, and then wonder why the well dried up. The third part in this verse is God’s formula for doing it. The verse states “for with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you”. If you just read this and move on you would think God is saying he will only give back what you gave and no more, yet the previous part of this verse didn’t explain it like that. As I meditated on this I began to think about measurements. When I use my weed eater in the spring and summer I have to measure the fuel. I put in one part oil to 5 parts gasoline, (not the exact measurement, just giving an example). That’s when it hit me. God blesses us with that type of measuring that explains the 30, 60 and 100 fold returns in other verses. God is so good to us.
