January 4, 2015. CYCLE-LIFE UPDATER: (for Sunday) Ten minutes on the elliptical. Twenty minutes to the McOffice and home. Did not take long to decide cancelling the morning training session was a good idea. Icy roads would make for a decidedly difficult, unsafe ride. Likewise for any sort of workout. Late morning also provided an opportunity to actually get out on the roads to test it. Coffee crave-time. Had to walk the parking lot to get to the roadway. The temperature was above freezing, rain falling, few cars on the road. Had to follow in tire tracks to make it to more travelled road. Road side snow was safe pedaling. With so little traffic it was safe in the tire-marked-path. Closer to McDs my usual route had to be modified. The parking lot was not safe. Stayed on the road. Could not pedal the connecting path to the McDs parking lot. This had to be walked cautiously. Slick ice was everywhere. The rain had long stopped. My little adventure ride had been quite pleasant and satisfying. Hillman got my undivided attention. Decided against a grocery store stop. Too much traffic, too many unsafe possibilities. Ride home was traffic-quiet on Vanier Drive. Sure glad the ride to practice had been forestalled. Plenty of Junior hockey and American football play-offs to plug into. Stove-top-cooked my first meal since Christmas. Very easy to become dependent on quick serve packaged foods. Heat and serve. Very cold weather has hit Whitehorse ( minus 35). Ontario to follow suit this week. May have to consider the bus for early morning workouts if snow keeps coming. Canada advances to the final against Russia. Raptors lost. More tomorrow.
