January 5, 2015. Todays Challenge Genesis 15:1 - 17:27 Remember: 1. Read the suggested passages every day. 2. Find a verse or verse that hold special meaning for you in that day. 3. Praise God and pray for others in light to the Scripture you covered. 4. Reflect on the passages meaning and possibly journal a few ideas that God might be sharing with you. Todays Reflection: We see in todays reading that Abram and Sarai get new names to match their positions in Gods plan. We also see God making and ratifying His covenant with Abraham. The relationship between God and Abraham is a good one, so let us focus today on Abrahams other relationships. Even though Abraham is obedient to God, he ran ahead of God because of Sarahs ideas and this eventually put a strain on their marital relationship. While we read it over 2 - 3 chapters, it actually took place over periods of years. When we run ahead of God, it not only effects our relationship with God, but it also hinders our relationships with others, even those closest to us. As we begin this New Year - 2015, let us remember those around us who are dear to us. Let us make our decisions based on the eternal impact it will have on them, as well as on us. Let us make plans according to the idea that they are to be considered as more important than ourselves. This way we wont have to cry out to them that we are lost without them when things have gone wrong because we ran ahead of God and did our own thing. Let us be mindful and remember the lessons from Abrahams life and let the things God has for us come to us in His timing not our own. Let us avoid the pitfalls that befell Abraham and walk as he did in faith and obedience. As we reflect on Abrahams life, here is a song that might have reflected how he might have felt as he and Sarah struggled through the birth of Ishmael and how it strained their relationship. Mad About You by Sting A stones throw from Jerusalem I walked a lonely mile in the moonlight And though a million stars were shining My heart was lost on a distant planet That whirls around the April moon Whirling in an arc of sadness Im lost without you Im lost without you Though all my kingdoms turn to sand And fall into the sea Im mad about you Im mad about you And from the dark secluded valleys I heard the ancient sighs of sadness But every step I thought of you Every footstep only you And every star a grain of sand The leavings of a dried up ocean Tell me, how much longer? How much longer? They say a city in the desert lies The vanity of an ancient king But the city lies in broken pieces Where the wind howls and the vultures sing These are the works of man This is the sum of our ambition It would make a prison of my life If you became anothers wife With every prison blown to dust My enemies walk free Im mad about you Im mad about you And I have never in my life Felt more alone than I do now Although I claim dominions over all I see It means nothing to me There are no victories In all our histories, without love A stones throw from Jerusalem I walked a lonely mile in the moonlight And though a million stars were shining My heart was lost on a distant planet That whirls around the April moon Whirling in an arc of sadness Im lost without you Im lost without you And though you hold the keys to ruin Of everything I see With every prison blown to dust, My enemies walk free Though all my kingdoms turn to sand And fall into the sea Im mad about you Im mad about you https://youtube/watch?v=nDvkOwmE2ZU
