January 8th is the birthday of William Hartnell, who just missed - TopicsExpress

January 8th is the birthday of William Hartnell, who just missed being in the silent era (his first film was a 1930 musical), but as hes the first Doctor Who, I felt like I couldnt let his birthdate go by without acknowledging it. :-) Inspired by William Hartnetll, I decided to watch a science fiction short today, An Excursion to the Moon, a 1908 film directed by Segundo de Chomón, who was himself inspired by Georges Meliess A Trip to the Moon. The plot, of course, is the same, while Chomóns direction seems a bit more frenetic, and he makes more use of close ups and long shots than I recall in the Melies work. What was most fascinating to me about this was that clearly filmmakers copying ideas from other filmmakers is nothing new. ;-) https://youtube/watch?v=nqNcaQYFqSs
