January 9. On this date in 1965 - fifty years ago today - the LP Beatles 65 hit #1. It had been released on December 15th, just in time for many of us to find a copy under our Christmas tree, or to find a good use for the $5 that Gramma sent us for Christmas. Like other American Beatles LPs of the time, it was a mash-up of various British releases: eight songs from Beatles for Sale, one song from A Hard Days Night, and the Shes a Woman/I Feel Fine single. The albums popularity gave rise to similarly titled LPs: Sinatra 65, Ellington 65, Trio 65 (by jazz pianist Bill Evans), and Brasil 65 (by Sérgio Mendes) - all fine records, but just let me hear some of that rocknroll music: https://youtube/watch?v=tyUAUNkvjN4
