January is National Mentoring Month. There are countless examples of artists, scholars, and collectors working to preserve traditions in the AFC archive. Among the most notable examples are Wayne Newell and Blanch Sockabasin, who have worked to preserve Passamaquoddy culture and language through both educational programs and performance. Read more about Passamaquoddy culture and the work of Newell and Sockabasin in this essay by folklorist Kathleen Mundell. loc.gov/folklife/events/HomegrownArchives/2009htmlflyers/NewellSockabasinFlyer.html?loclr=fbafc loc.gov/item/ihas.200196441?loclr=fbafc
