January is proving to be a very busy month for DAV Chapter 12 Stanly County. The DAV Transportation Team has transported 6 veterans to their VA medical appointments with four additional trips still on the books for the remainder of the month. The Chapter Service Officers have assisted three veterans regarding their veterans’ benefits and the DAV Membership Team has recruited and signed new members into Chapter 12, bringing the Stanly County chapter to 432 members. The DAV Ritual Team has conducted military rites at a half dozen funerals of fallen veterans, so far this month. At the upcoming meeting this January 28th, Chapter 12 is expecting a visit from DAV National Senior Vice-Commander, Ron Hope. Chapter 12 Commander, David Thompson said “the focus is on building better lives for America’s disabled veterans and their families and we have indeed kept ourselves sharply focused on our mission”. He continued, “Each year, we break the previous year’s record in service to veterans and and in membership.” When asked how Chapter 12 has been able to add 20 or more new members each year, Commander Thompson responded, “Veterans are joining because they find that DAV Chapter 12 is truly helping veterans.” Local veterans are invited to the next meeting to enjoy a complementary meal and check their eligibility. DAV Chapter 12 Stanly County is located at 1540 Highway 24/27 Bypass West in Albemarle, between Habitat for Humanity Restore and Burleson Square.
