Janza gets first win By SHAMAOMA MUSONDA at Heroes National Stadium Zambia 3 Sudan 1 COACH Honour Janza and the newly built Heroes National Stadium were yesterday given a winning start thanks to Chipolopolo’s impressive display that saw them thump Sudan in an international friendly match. Nkana defender Chris Munthali got himself into the history books by scoring the first goal at the magnificent structure to give Janza a winning start to his career at the helm of the Chipolopolo ahead of this Saturday Morocco 2015 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier match against Mozambique. With Janza getting an impressive rating in his first game, there were also some good performances from comeback kids led by Mukuka Mulenga and Given Singuluma, who scored a goal each with unsettled midfielder Fwayo Tembo also pushing in an impressive shift. This match that ended on a high with two goals in the last minute saw the Chipolopolo lit up the stadium in the first half and then went flat in the second period. The Chipolopolo played exciting short passes in midfield and then occasional forays on the wings especially on the right where Kabaso Chongo and Bruce Musakanya were involved in the action. And it was no surprise that on 15 minutes, Musakanya was fouled outside the right side of the box and Fwayo Tembo was given the responsibility of taking the free kick that was missed by a pressured Jonas Sakuwaha, only for Munthali to slam in the opener. Captain of the day Rainford Kalaba then led Zambia into pressing for a second goal but the Sudanese were resolute in defence and kept looking dangerous on the counter through Bakri Ab Egadir whose dipping shot in the 25th minute flew just over the cross bar. But the Chipolopolo were more determined to impress the new coach and kept pushing and after winning the ball in Sudan’s area, Chongo broke free on the right and delivered a perfect cross which Singuluma met with aplomb to head in the ball that went in off the cross bar for Zambia’s second. Sudan strikers presented more threat for Zambia with Bakriab Agadir shooting narrowly wide in the 43rd minute with goalkeeper Danny Munyao rooted to his position before the first half was closed out with a comfortable 2-0 lead. The second half started with changes that saw the two scorers rested for Mulenga and Adrian Chama before the game went flat with substitutions, which went up to seven, interjecting the dull game with Winston Kalengo being the only spark as his shot grazed the upright in the 76th minute. In the 84th minute, Salah Hassan was twice set up but with substitute goalkeeper Toaster Nsabata to beat, but he missed the scoring opportunities before the Sudanese were granted a dubious penalty with Chongo given a yellow card, six minutes into injury time. Ali Gafar Hussein stepped up to reduce the deficit but Sudan instead of pushing for a second, it was Zambia that surged forward and after some anxious moments involving Ronald ‘Sate Sate’ Kampamba, Mulenga latched onto a cross, beating two defenders before unleashing a low shot past Mahgoub to get himself his first Chipolopolo goal that sent the crowd into a frenzy. Meanwhile, the Chipolopolo today shifts camp to Ndola ahead of this weekend clash at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium while Sudan guests South Africa away.
