Japan is currently preparing to become the next signatory to the Hague Convention on Child Abduction. The effect of Japan becoming a signatory to the Convention is that it will be easier for a child to be returned to their home country when they have been wrongfully taken to Japan by, in most instances, a parent. Such abductions include where the children are taken without a parent’s permission and without a court order allowing the relocation of the child.
