Japanese Grand Prix - Suzuka 2014 Notebook 3rd – 5th October. Singapore Review From the star of the race – Jean Eric Vergne, Fantastic tire management by Lewis and Magnussen suffering from the heat to Rosberg’s steering wheel problems the race was packed with a fair share of drama. Despite the superior engine power Hamilton Managed the Supersoft tyres well to manage his race running in the range of one minute 51’s while the chasing pack led by Vettel was doing one minute 54’s that made the difference in gap he created to win the race after his last stop. Jean Eric Vergne had fanstastic final lap as he had a 5 sec penalty which he managed to create in one and a half laps and still maintain his finishing position after the penalty. The momentum is now with Hamilton for the title, Rosberg looks a bit shaken and with a 3 point lead. An interesting fact is that when you take out the DNF’s and weekend they both have had issues, the result still remains the same. . The track. The Japanese Grand prix is one of the legendary tracks in F1 with rich history and about 13 driver titles have been decided here – the last driver being Vettel in 2011. The Grand Prix has been shared between the Fuji track and Suzuka. The Japanese fans are the best in formula one, they dress up, have mascots and toy cars carved out of boxes as well. Kamui Kobayashi returns to his home race, his performance here was fantastic in 2012 when he finished 3rd (Career best) – best year for Sauber in recent times. The weather will play a part this weekend with a typhoon expected in Japan on Monday and there are fears that the race could into darkness – talks are there to see whether this can prompt the race to start earlier. Rain also during the race is still a possibility which can make things exciting. Mercededs still extected to dominate, as it is still a fast track and Redbull to be the best of the rest. Williams seem to have been out developed chasis wise by most teams but they still have a fast engine. Vettel has won here 4 out of 5 times only behind Shumacher in that statistic, 4 Pole Positions and 5 podiums out of 5. We are in for an exciting weekend, this is a fantastic track for any pure race with the double right hander T1 and T2 and the 130R corner and the entry into the chicane which provides some daring overtakes and drivers locking up.
