Jarrett Chin has just reminded me of how far my spiritual journey - TopicsExpress

Jarrett Chin has just reminded me of how far my spiritual journey has come. It was not so much a change in beliefs at the base level, as it was the ability to agree with people, when I know that my understanding is very different than theirs. It is like a physicist who studies light agreeing with a child that, Yes, the sky is very blue. We dont always need to go into the details about full spectrum light and absorption of some wavelengths while other wavelengths are scattered or emitted, etc. When I was young, I encountered many literalist Christians who, of course, insisted on some odd things that I did not agree with, including their way of looking at the Bible. After a few too many of these, Christian became a dirty word for me. I just told people I was a Taoist. In some cases, that meant people thought I was damned to Hell, but at least they would leave me alone. Over the years, and being around many metaphysical Christians, I have found my tolerance has grown. Like the famous Unity minister who, when asked by a seatmate on a plane, Do you believe in Jesus? I find that now I can say, Not only do I believe IN Jesus, but I also believe Jesus. I dont feel the need to tell them they are wrong. I may tell a teaching story, a parable, as Jesus did. Sometimes they are even old Taoist stories, as I have sometimes shared here. But I dont have to explain every point to those who cannot hear. Thank God! :D
