Jarrod and I took the kids and our niece and nephew to Jungle Java today so they could have some fun... An hour into playing, Lauren comes and tells me some little boy called her CHOCOLATE FACE! (Insert record scratching noise) Without alerting her father, I took my shoes off and climbed my behind into the giant treehouse! She took me over to him. Hes obviously younger than her but older than Charles so he knows better. I waited until he stopped playing for a moment: Me: Excuse me, do you have a problem with my daughters skin? Him: blank stare, extreme fear and terror - no words Me: Did you call her CHOCOLATE FACE? Him: mumbles - yes... Now he looks like hes about to pee on himself... Mind you, Im not yelling or anything. Me: Well what you said was wrong. It was offensive and hurtful. You have to be careful what you say to people. Him: looks directly in Laurens eyes and says, Im sorry... Lauren: I accept your apology... The point here was that I didnt want to scare this little boy to the point that he would forever fear black people. I did, however, want to impress upon him the impact of the words he uses and understanding the importance of respect. I hope he learned something today. Because I promise you had she gone to her daddy instead of me, this story probably wouldve gone completely different... #ijs #dontmesswithmybabies #mamabear
