Jas Mangat is the new champion of the Puma Energy Rally of Tanzania following his commendable victory in the third round of the 2013 Africa Rally Championship. The Mitsubishi Lancer Evo10 driver led for most of the way to register a signifacnt vitory that could help him relish a dream to win the precious ARC title with just three rounds remaining. 'I am very happy to have won the ARC round in Tanzania for the first time in my rallying career. I think it was one of the longest Sundays of my life especially not knowing what the final day would hold for mean me and my crew," said Mangat. Mangat becomes the second Ugandan driver to win the Tanzanian Rally following a similar feat achieved by the late Riyaz Kurji in 2005 in a Subaru Impreza. Mangat said he was very happy with organization and especially the way controllers did their part. The victory takes Mangat to the second place in the current standings of the ARC with 40 points. Jassy Singh of Zambia, whose dad (Muna Singh) was crowned ARC champion in 2004 and. 05, is the new leader of the ARC after finishing third in Dar-es- Salaam at the wheels of a Subaru Impreza. "The boy is good and is ready to listen. Good thing is that he does not scare me my age, " joked David Shioka, who helped Mona win the ARC title twice. The 56-year-old navigator is one of the most experienced co-drivers in the African Continent having won the title three times in 2004/05 and 07 respectively Gerard Miller was the best-placed home driver to finish in the second place at the wheels of a Mitsubishi Lancer. Miller is famous for his fifth place finish in the 1988 Paris-Dakar Marathon Rally at the wheels of Range Rover. He is also the former Tanzania Rally Champion (1992).
