Jason Bateman directs and stars in the new comedy Bad Words. My review. Bateman plays 40-year-old Guy Thrilby who due to not having passed the eighth grade is eligible to participate in the big Spelling Bee competition. His reason for doing so are not clear as he keeps very mum even as he travels with a reporter (Katherine Hahn) who cant seem to get much info out of him. Along the way Guy meets a 10-year-old fellow contestant (Rohan Chan) who tries to befriend the him. Allison Janney, Ben Falcone, and Philip Baker Hall also star. Even Batemans The Hogan Family co-star Steve Witting (he played Burt on the series) gets in on the fun as the Spelling Bee proctor. Bateman is really good here. He has just the right delivery of the material to make it work. The young co-star in the film is very good as is the rest of the cast. This is a very funny film. My Rating: A-.
