Jason Luckton keeps the list fires burning, and I have been mulling around on this one for awhile, so allow me to present... My Top Ten Favorite Lyrics (aka songwriters who really get it right!) The list is comprised of song lyrics that really move me, and I will try to provide brief examples from each song for context. So, shall we descend into the madness? 10. Missing Person by Michael W. Smith... this song about the prodigal inside all of us. There was a boy who had the Faith to move a mountain/ And like a child he would believe without a reason/ Without a trace he disappeared into the void and/ Ive been searching for this missing person 9. The Boxer by- Simon & Garfunkel... this song is a masterpiece! In the clearing stands a boxer and a fighter by his trade/ and he carries the reminders of every glove that laid him down/ or cut him till he cried out in his anger and his shame/ I am leaving I am leaving but the fighter still remains 8. Resistance by Queensrÿche... this 1990 environmental anthem made one heckuva concert opener! Out in the Midwest hear the roar of the plow/ turning grassland into sand/ gotta feed the people more everyday/ but the wind keeps blowing the land away 7.Faithfully by Journey... what a poignant lament to the difficulty of a long distance relationship. And being apart aint easy on this love affair/ two strangers learn to fall in love again/ I get the joy of rediscovering you/ oh girl, you stand by me/ Im forever yours... ... Every one of you just sang that word I left off, didnt ya????? lol 6. Falling To Pieces by Faith No More... abstract prose at its best. From the bottom it looks like a steep incline/ from the top another downhill slope of mine/ but I know the equilibriums there 5. Song Sung Blue by Neil Diamond... every bodys got one, every garden grows one 4. Fortress Around Your Heart by Sting... this guy is a master at painting life in romantic hues even when discussing the damage he did to a girls heart. And if I built a fortress around your heart/ encircled you in trenches and barbed wire/ let me build a bridge/ for I cannot fill your chasm/ and let me burn the battlements all down 3. Everywhere I Go by Kings X... amidst an album rightfully titled Faith Hope Love By Kings X rests this beautifully understated ballad about life, love and losing both. I read the story, said You died/ I turned the page, You were alive/ With hope and love and mostly faith/ one day Ill see You face to face 2. I Wish Wed All Been Ready by Larry Norman... from singing it at Camp Cowen to seeing DC Talk do it within arms reach to finally hearing Larrys version, this gut wrenching song puts The Rapture into stark hues. A man and wife asleep in bed/ she hears a noise and turns her head/ hes gone/ I wish wed all been ready/ two men walking up a hill/ one disappears and ones left standing still/ I wish wed all been ready/ theres no time to change your mind/ The Fathers come and youve been left behind And my all time favorite song lyric: 1. Scenes From An Italian Restaurant by Billy Joel... nobody writes clever lyrics like this guy! This song takes the cake though. Brenda And Eddie had had it already by the summer of Seventy Five/ from the high to the low to the end of the show for the rest of their lives/ they couldnt go back to The Greasers/ the best they could do was pick up the pieces/ we always knew they would both find a way to get by/ So thats all I heard about Brenda and Eddie/ I cant tell you more than I told you already/ and here we are waving Brenda and Eddie goodbye Okay, Ill try to post links for each song below so you can check them out! Lateral to the usual receivers... Greg Barney Carrie Lawrence Jason Helton Jason Rockin Randell Tim McCoy
