Jason Robert Wilkerson To the Residents of Cuba: The officers of the Cuba Police Department would like to address the stories currently circulating about the ongoing investigation into the city’s police chief. In recent months, the chief’s words and actions have fallen well short of his sworn oath to uphold the city’s laws. By acting as though he is above the law, the chief has lost the respect of every officer, and betrayed the trust given to him by the city’s residents. To address the ongoing situation, we met with Mayor Ray Mortimeyer, City Attorney Lance Thurman and the Board of Alderman on June 12 to present evidence for the following complaints: - Altering officers’ time sheets (multiple occasions) - Misappropriating public funds (multiple occasions) - Threatening to kill aldermen (multiple occasions, including one recorded by a police officer) All of the evidence supporting these accusations has been turned over to the Crawford County Prosecuting Attorney Bill Seay, who is currently reviewing it pending an investigation. The Board of Alderman will begin to address this issue on August 5, at 5:30 p.m. during its regular council meeting. The officers who proudly protect and serve this city are now asking you for your help. Please come to the meeting to voice your support for the police officers that are standing together against corruption. If anybody has any concerns on this matter, feel free to contact your local Alderman or City Hall.
