Jasons Official Palm Beach, Aruba, review: Hotel Marriott Surf Club: I loved this hotel. It has by far the best pool/lazy river in the beach. Clean. Nice location. Food... Well there will be a food section... Palm Beach: spectacular beach. Beautiful sand and turquoise water. Walkways between the hotels travel through gardens and Palm trees. Clean. Quite a few South American families - so banana hammocks took a day or two to get used to - but really nice folks from a lot of different places. Tons of activities, including snorkeling (our favorite), and every other water activity you can think of. All at reasonable vacation prices. Food: ugh. Your choices in general are twofold. 1) processed prepackaged slop served at glacial pace for an absurd premium, often with salads - all of which are served with iceberg lettuce (can I get a spring green or spinach? Heck we are near South America... Kale anyone?) 2) seafood served al la 1995 with odd flavor combinations (Norwegian Halibut with Lemon, served over truffle risotto??) also served at glacial pace and often without regard for any pre-ordered tweeks. Luckily there are some - if not gems - then at least above average places. For breakfast and lunch make the short walk to the Ritz. Its not bad at all. For dinner, our favorite place turned out to be simply fish (skip screening eagle and La Vista, passions was ok). Madame Janets and Flying Fishbone from our previous visit were also good to very good. Overall: I am sure we will be back. It is a very kid friendly place, and with the exception of the lethargic service and so-so food situation, everything was perfect. Truly great time.
