Jay Baileys Christmas Wishlist: 1. I could really use a reduction in copper theft and vandalism in Memphis right now. Copper thieves break into my properties and the properties of others, tear into the walls, and steal $30 worth of copper that costs me $5000 to repair. Please Santa, Mayor, City Council, or somebody this would be a special gift. 2. I could really use a reduction in youth violence in this city. If we reinstate the youth employment program, and make it for all of the youth and not just for high performing middle class kids, it would be a great start. Also open all of the community centers until midnight, every night with adequate supervision, this would be a great beginning to my new year. 3. I would love for somebody to gift wrap a resolution that stops giving money and tax breaks to large private projects owned and run by wealthy outsiders, and begin infusing that money and tax breaks to locally owned small businesses. Any large company that gets these incentives must sign a contract wherein they agree not to use temporary services and that 85% of the people they hire must live within the boundaries of the City of Memphis. 4. Refurbish and reopen the Mid-South Coliseum. It is a shame that we have no medium sized venues for concerts and events. Tell the Grizzlies that we are going to stop honoring the non-compete clause and stop this madness in its tracks. 5. Finally , please , please , please, Santa help my brethren to pull up their pants. They have not realized that the rest of the country has already gotten past the sagging phase and just like jeri curls we are still locked into it.
