Jay was one of the very first people I ever asked a question of, at the 2007 Norwescon. I had not published a thing then. Was still a hopeful aspirant. Followed in Jays path as a WOTF winner three years later. (sigh) The inevitable has come. I liked Jay. We were not close, but we were cordial on-line. We disagreed about things, but never did he use that disagreement to declare me a bad guy. Nor I he. And I thought this a remarkable thing in our genre these days. R.I.P. Mr. Lake. Boat drinks, sir! Boat drinks!
