Jayant Vishnu Narlikar, considered an eminent Astrophysicist of India associated with IUCAA, Pune and TIFR Mumbai, wrote an article entitled "Were our ancient ancestors scientifically advanced?", I was shocked by the cartoon appended to his article. A brahmin in traditional attire carries a vessel labelled Ganga Jal and says in confusion “My son calls it simply H2O” . The implication is the father is orthodox, stupid and unscientific and the son “scientifically advanced”. But the fact obvious is father’s description is accurate and the boy has just remembered the chemical formula and repeated it as a parrot. If he does a chemical analysis, he would have found a lot more. He blames Sanskrit language for our backwardness and says it is due to weakness of Sanskrit language in which words have many meanings. I am ashamed of the ignorance and stupidity of our eminent scientists.
