Jazz bassist Richard Bona was born and raised in the West African nation of Cameroon. Born into a family of musicians he used to play different instruments from a young age. He began performing in his village church, later on being invited to perform at festivals and ceremonies. At the age of 13 he discovered jazz music and he started to play the electric bass, being influenced by the famous Jaco Pastourius. Bona emigrated in Germany at the age of 22 to study music. Then he moved to Paris where he played in various jazz clubs and in 1995 he established himself in New York. During his career he had the opportunity to join sessions with Joe Zawinul, Regina Carter or Bob James. He released seven studio albums and become professor at University of New York. #Cameroon #Afrojazz
