Jazz pianist Joe Sample passed away on the 12th of September. Sample was a pioneer in the use of the electric piano and was one of the founding members of the Crusaders. Besides being a seminal force in the Smooth Jazz movement, through the 1980s and 90s Sample enjoyed crossing the lines of jazz and integrating his sound with the likes of Steely Dan, Joni Mitchell, B.B. King and many others. Here is a cut from Joe, playing one of my personal favorite jazz tunes, Nicas Dream (composed by Horace Silver). Thanks Joe.
