Jean-Léon Gérôme by Gerald M. Ackerman, 1986. I saw my first Gerome, (a small figure study) face to face in an exhibition at the IBM gallery in NYC in 1987 and was hooked. This book came afterwards through a process of daring myself to spend the $125 to obtain it...far and away more than Id ever spent on a book. Through mental contortions, rationalizations, and repeated visits to The Weyhe Gallery and Bookstore on Lexington Avenue, I eventually took the plunge, to the delight of the owner, who must have wondered who this guy was thumbing through this book every week. Anyway, five stars, its everything youd want it to be.
