Jean Marshall, Don Guano, Audrey J. Normand, Jesse Hochmuth, Christopher Hochmuth....Hey everyone...This is a video of me doing the A.L.S. Challenge in memory of my Uncle Dave Weston. I wanted to do it in front of the Sun I painted...In a way, my Uncle and I created the painting together.These wooden folk suns were things my Uncle liked making to give out to friends and family to hang on their homes. It always seemed to be his way of spreading JOY to those he loved, sort of like my paintings are to me. My family home in Northwood had one displayed on the front face for many many years growing up and as the years went by, I adopted the folk sun as my personal symbol. They werent anything too fancy, just simple wooden shaped secured together and painted in a basic blue yellow and red. After my Uncle past away I helped my Aunt and cousin to clear out and pack up some of my Uncles belongings during a move from the house they had lived in. I felt truly honored when they presented me with the sun in the video...It had been left unpainted and I have a feeling it was the largest one he had made. It was agreed that I would paint this one in my typical trademark fashion. For the next year and a half of my life painting the sun became a labor of love for me. on nights that I was particularly down or moody, I would trudge to the studio and pour my heart into the piece. I would take my time, and I would think, and feel, and paint...most nights it would actually feel as though Uncle Dave were right there keeping me company as I worked...it was truly magical and I always left the studio in a much better mood. I have never counted them, but I have painted The word JOY close to 100 times into the pattern work of the painting...That was the kind of vibe I always got from the man...unless of course he was losing at board games!...Thank you Aunt Jean and Cousin Kimmie (and Uncle Dave) for such a beautiful gift. I cant wait to see your videos Jesse and Christopher!!!!!!
