Jeff and I attended a marriage conference this weekend. 3 days of a jam packed schedule to help us continue along this process of oneness. Everything from why marriages fail, communication, conflict survival, intimacy and leaving a legacy. All wonderful things that come up here and there or all at once during a marriage! But what made this weekend so wonderful was they reminded us that WE CANT DO IT ALONE! God has a purpose and a plan for oneness if we will just look to him for that guidance! Over 50% of marriages are ending in divorce and I can testify its because we try and make ourselves and/or spouses our god. For the first 10 years I experienced this fact, but thankfully the Lord opened my heart and eyes to see that he did not create Jeff and I to fulfill one another- His purpose is to show the world who He is through our marriage. A picture, if you will. Sunday morning the Lord gave Jeff a wonderful visualization that I felt was important to share. Imagine a triangle, with God at the top and the bottom 2 angles being each spouse. So many times we try and work on our marriages horizontally, which in our case caused much disappointment and conflict. Instead, If we would focus our attention and efforts at looking upward towards our Heavenly Father and following His ways, we will find fulfillment in Him and then be able to properly handle the horizontal relationships, our marriages being first! As we continue to grow in Christ together, our eyes will always be on the Lord rather than on each others imperfections. He gave us unmerited grace and mercy- we need to learn to do the same in our relationships. Ask the Lord to show you who you are focused on more- yourself, your spouse or Him? He is always ready with open arms to receive you when you are willing to turn away from that which is keeping you from honoring him. He will forgive those who confess their sin and will cleanse all our unrighteousness! Praise God!
