Jeffrey Clark, Professor and Chair, Department of Sociology and Anthropology, presented a paper titled “Settlement Systems Studies in American Samoa: an Integration of LiDAR Analysis and Pedestrian Survey of Tropical Landscapes” at the Indo-Pacific Prehistory Association (IPPA) Congress, held in Siem Reap, Cambodia, January 12-18. The paper was co-authored by Dr. Stephanie Day (Geosciences), Seth Quintus (NDSU and University of Auckland), and Dr. Donald Schwert (Geosciences). It summarized the contribution of LiDAR data to Clark’s long-term study of the relationships between coast and inland settlements in American Samoa over the last 3,000 years.
