Jeffrey Lockwood writes about the importance of defying climate change, not simply adapting to it. I am amazed and frightened by our capacity to re-normalize our perceptions, to habituate to stench, noise, and ugliness. I don’t doubt that we can adapt to the consequences of climate change. But should we? We dont ask people to reconcile themselves to hunger, sickness, or violence. We dont want our children to get over the suffering of others.
