Jega, Aregbesola disagree over anti-rigging plan and Inspector General Of Police warns troublemakers BY Gbenga Olarinoye State Governor and the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Rauf Aregbesola and Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Prof. Attahiru Jega, yesterday, sharply disagreed over the anti-rigging procedure proposed by the governor. The face-off came as the Acting Inspector General of Police, Mr. Suleiman Abba, warned trouble makers that they would face the full wrath of the law if they foment trouble before, during or after the election. They spoke at a Stakeholders’ Forum for the decisive election due this weekend. Governor Aregbesola had during his remarks called on his supporters to use their camera phones to take pictures of their ballot papers before casting their votes. The suggestion was seriously countered by Jega, who asked voters to disregard the idea. “I have been informed that a candidate told his supporters to take photograph of their ballot papers before casting their votes. I want to say that voters should disregard it. The law allows secrecy of balloting. You cannot go to the polling units and take photograph of ballot papers; therefore, you should disregard that.” Jega posited that the commission’s objective was to make every vote count in the country, noting that the INEC is determined to conduct free, fair and credible election that would be difficult to be challenged in any court of law. “Our goal in Osun State election is to make it the best ever conducted in Nigeria. The one which the outcome will be difficult to dispute and the one which winner will be the one the people want”. Jega also urged staff of the commission to be wary of the antics of politicians, saying they should not be induced, warning that those who fall short of the commission’s vision are on their own. Jega said that the ballot papers would be different for every local government stressing that “cloning ballot papers will be difficult and any voter who brings a voter’s card meant for a local government to another would face the music. “What we have done in Ekiti State will be different from Osun State,” Jega assured Also speaking at the occasion, the Inspector General of Police said that all the security men on ground are battle ready to suppress violence. He warned thugs and their sponsors to ‘beware’, saying that security agencies shall be on land and air to apprehend those who want to undermine the election. ‘“Anybody that wants to undermine or cause mischief before, during and after the election shall be met force with force.
