Jen and I enjoyed meeting David Sedaris today and hearing him read and speak tonight. Thank you, Alisa Gilbert for the work you do, bringing so much remarkable talent to our little town. I have been a fan of David for over twenty years, since the original Santaland Diaries. Interestingly, when I told him that tonight, David remarked, Ive always wondered why people liked those stories so much. I just recently re-read them. They are pretty terrible. His writing now certainly has much more nuance and craft compared to his early work that mostly played for laughs. That said, no one can play for laughs like David Sedaris.
