Jennifer Grausmans and Sam Cullmans new film, Art and Craft, opens - TopicsExpress

Jennifer Grausmans and Sam Cullmans new film, Art and Craft, opens at the Nuart in Santa Monica this weekend. Larry Mantles interview yesterday with Grausman and one of the subjects of the film, Mark Landis, brings out the articulate and engaging side of Landis, who for 35 years mischievously (Landiss word) created and donated works of art he purported were by other, prominent artists to dozens of American museums See scpr.org/programs/airtalk/2014/09/26/39556/often-posed-as-a-priest-artist-fools-trained-eyes/. The film documents the unraveling of his different personae, in large part because of the hard word of one former museum curator, Mathew Leininger, another subject of the film. Landis no longer has the psychological need to seek friendship and respect in this way and indeed, thanks to the filmmakers, is creating works based on photos submitted by commissioners on through his new website. One of the highlights of the film is Landiss charming and engaging participation in the Cincinnati museum show of many of the works he donated to museums under false pretenses. With thanks to Alessandro Agos giving us the opportunity to preview the film at USC.
