Jennifer Minier Albrecht has discovered her 8 year old son is not - TopicsExpress

Jennifer Minier Albrecht has discovered her 8 year old son is not ready for read to learn phase yet. He is still in the learning to read phase and that is ok! He is making progress daily. But he also can not sit and listen for long to stories read to him either. Tried this with history (TruthQuest) and he just shuts down, gets glassy eyes. So, thinking he needs more hands on approach right now to history and science. Science is relatively easy to approach hands on, but history? How do you do more hands on stuff than reading? My older child loves to read so TruthQuest is great for her. She does not need hands on stuff much. But my boy, seems to be the only way he learns right now. He even said he wishes math, science and history was more hands on than a lot of reading and worksheets. So, help! What can we use to help him in this still early phase?
